Release concert: Annie Bloch's I DEPEND
Support: Andrew Collberg
Annie Bloch's I DEPEND is confession, consolation and departure at the same time. The promise of independence has not been fulfilled - it remains ambivalent and open: a search that continues. The ten-piece ensemble led by Annie Bloch guides her vocals through rough, edgy terrain, allowing words to strike powerfully or softly dip into flowing, cuddly harmonies. The music remains raw, authentic and yet gentle and conciliatory, but never stays in one place for long.
I DEPEND defies easy categorization: It is neither pure orchestra, nor classical big band, nor merely a pop band with additional acoustic instruments. Rather, it defines its own rules, treats instruments as equals and challenges traditional roles of harmonic or rhythmic accompaniment. I DEPEND captures what must be carried and dissolves what cannot remain.
Annie Bloch continues her work as an indie folk artist with I DEPEND. In 2024, she released the EP "Four Trips To The Shop" on Papercup Records (distributed by Rough Trade), produced by Jan Philipp. Prior to that, the albums "When You Get Here" (2021, self-release) and "Floors" (2019, self-release) were released in collaboration with the duo Annie & Mo. I DEPEND has already performed live at festivals such as the Platzhirsch Festival Duisburg (2023) and the asphalt Festival Düsseldorf (2024). The debut album was released on March 14, 2025 by Papercup Records and is now celebrating its release at the Orangerie with a stage design by Julia Misiorny.

Andrew Collberg - who grew up between the USA and Europe - combines musical influences from both worlds. His compositions seem strangely familiar and at the same time unique. He has been a songwriter, composer and producer for over 17 years, releasing four solo albums and collaborating with numerous artists. After leaving the desert city of Tucson (Arizona) a few years ago, he now lives in Cologne. The multi-instrumentalist has collaborated with Howe Gelb (Giant Sand), Molly Burch and Modern Nature, among others.
