Die Linke Bezirksverband Kreuzberg/Friedrichshain, Bezirksverband Neukölln, Netzwerk Palästinasolidarität in Die Linke Berlin present an information and discussion event on the legal aspects of the accusations against Israel.

Both the UN and NGOs such as Human Rights Watch have concluded that the Israeli government is using starvation of the civilian population as a weapon of war in Gaza. Israel's war crimes fulfill the characteristics of genocide, they conclude. But what do these accusations mean in legal terms? And what are the consequences for state action?

Dr. Nahed Samour, a legal and Islamic scholar, conducts research at Radboud University. She studied at the universities of Bonn, Birzeit/Ramallah, London (SOAS), Berlin (HU), Harvard and Damascus. From 2014 to 2018 she taught as Junior Faculty at the Harvard Law School Institute for Global Law and Policy. From 2019-2022 she was Core Emerging Investigator at the Integrative Research Institute Law & Society at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin).

Paula Zimmermann is a specialist at Amnesty International in Germany, where she campaigns for the protection of fundamental and human rights. She studied law in Leipzig, Berlin (HU) and London (SOAS) with a focus on international law and international human rights protection and has worked for the European Center for Constitutional and Human Rights, among others. As part of her work at Amnesty International, she currently focuses on protest movements and issues relating to democracy and the rule of law as well as international (criminal) law issues.
