The European elections in mid-June confirmed many fears, especially with regard to the German result. Ahead of the state elections in September, the question arises as to whether the foreseeable realignment of the party spectrum will lead to an authoritarian turn - driven by far-right forces, promoted by the failure of the established parties, endured almost without resistance by a weak political left - and fueled by multiple global crises that are causing uncertainty and a longing for "simple solutions" among many people.
Are there also positive aspects, possibly even in the European elections? It is always worth looking beyond the horizon. Political events are more diverse than they might appear under the impression of numerous catastrophe reports. More than enough material for Stephan Hebel when he once again sheds light on recent events at Club Voltaire. As usual, he will not only present facts, but also outline connections and ask about the interests behind them. He will also look for signs of hope for a change for the better.
