HANNS KUNITZBERGER. Abbild 2002–2005

In the organizer's words:

The presentation of the monumental work Abbild 2002-2005 by Austrian painter Hanns Kunitzberger (*1955, lives and works in Berlin) will conclude the series of exhibitions on contemporary art at the Hamburger Kunsthalle in 2024. The work, which comprises 16 large-format paintings, is an homage to large historical painting cycles. With this work, the Hamburger Kunsthalle is also picking up on the tradition of outstanding presentations of contemporary art in the Kuppelsaal, which was the impressive exhibition hall of the Kunsthalle after the opening of the extension. In their serial monumentality, the four groups of four individual paintings dominate the room. The hanging is reminiscent of spatial painting experiences such as in the Musée de l'Orangerie in Paris with its water lily murals by Claude Monet.
