"There's always a desire for transcendence in our music," says Rahill Jamalifard of Habibi, "a desire to go beyond our limits. Whether it's spiritual, physical or emotional, I feel like this album embodies that quest for more."

Indeed, Dreamachine, Habibi's mesmerizing new album released on Kill Rock Stars, is itself a work of sonic transcendence, a genre-bending swirl of analog and digital elements that transcends the critically acclaimed five-piece band's garage rock roots to arrive at a unique, captivating sound they've been chasing for more than a decade. Produced by Tyler Love and his longtime collaborator Jay Heiselmann, as well as MGMT multi-instrumentalist James Richardson, the collection is based on a blend of post-punk, experimental pop and vintage disco that recalls everything from Tom Verlaine and Diana Ross to Kate Bush and Kim Deal, all filtered through the band's shared fondness for Middle Eastern psych music. The songs on this album are their own worlds, each a haunting pursuit of something greater, and the band's performances are relentless and hypnotic, driven by fat synthesizers, powerful guitars and a strong rhythm section. The result is an album as fearless as it is captivating, an alternately fierce and joyous work that soars to new heights while reckoning with longing and escape, love and devotion, rebellion and reality.
