GÜNER KÜNIER: Riot Post Kraut from Berlin
"Yaramaz" is a Turkish word; translated one-to-one, it means something like "good-for-nothing". The term is often used towards young children when they are cheeky and rebellious.
Güner Künier has called her second album "Yaramaz" to tell her own coming-of-age story using punk and post-punk.
Postpunk and minimal/synthpunk are the most important musical references on "Yaramaz", but there are plenty of other (sub)genres that have left their mark.
Flat shoegaze sounds, a velvet underground noir vibe and a bit of krautrock as well as echoes of Riot Grrrl can be found on the album. All in all, "Yaramaz" sounds like an empowering album with a simple but important message: go your own way and don't let yourself be distracted.
Güner Künier was born in Izmir, Turkey, in 1990 and moved to Flensburg with her family at the age of three, where she also grew up.
She played in her first bands there as a teenager before moving to Berlin to study industrial engineering.
After graduating, she devoted herself entirely to art, working as an actress and musician.
In the early 2020s, she began making music solo. Her debut EP was released in 2021, followed a year later by her first album "Aşk".
"Yaramaz" will be released on 21.03.2025 by Flirt 99.
