GRMPF, EINE MUSIKALISCHE BAUSTELLE

In the organizer's words:

With glitter, timpani and trumpets, with humor and euphoria, we dedicate our opening premiere GRMPF, EINE MUSIKALISCHE BAUSTELLE, directed by Rafael Sanchez, to the construction site debacle at Offenbachplatz.

The consolation is that the Bühnen Köln are not alone with their building problems in this city. The really bad thing is: Cologne's theaters are not alone with their construction problems in this city.

Wallraf-Richartz, Waidmarkt, the Roman-Germanic Museum, the Central Library, the Jewish Museum and the Laurenz-Carré, the north-south subway and the Dom-Hotel. And let's not forget the city archive.

The people of Cologne know how to deal with temporary solutions. The cathedral was one of the main reasons for this. The eternal construction site in the heart of the city has been incorporated into the Cologne world view in an inimitable way over time with the prophecy "When the cathedral is finished, the world will end". The world has not yet come to an end, Cologne is still being renovated, albeit for far too long and at horrendous cost. Meanwhile, after the second missed opening date at Offenbachplatz, the theater has no choice but to celebrate the cancelled festivities in style. After all, the rag has to go up, especially in the interim. GRMPF is an attempt at an opening gala, albeit at the wrong time and in the wrong place. A musical construction site between high culture and shell construction, which illuminates the abysses of speedy construction work, mercilessly exposes the bungling and clumsiness of renovating the crumbling building stock and searches for culprits in the jungle of construction plans and containers. As the title GRMPF suggests: Schauspiel Köln doesn't have a solution either, but plenty of consolation at a moderate price (self-assessment).

With GRMPF, Rafael Sanchez and the Swiss author and actor Mike Müller are continuing their long-standing collaboration. Most recently, they developed an adaptation of Goldoni's DER DIENER ZWEIER HERREN for the Staatsschauspiel Dresden.
