Grand Snail Tour - Schreiben in Haltern
In the organizer's words:
The two authors Caren Jeß and Tim Holland set up their Büro für außerordentliche Schreibangelegenheiten (BFAS) in the middle of Haltern am See and put their writing expertise at the service of the town's community. They write texts for citizens, which - depending on their needs - can range from affectionate insults, sick notes and bedtime stories to invitations, (love) letters, shopping lists or complaints. Finally, the anonymized commissioned texts are read aloud together.

The presence of the trailer in selected places invites people to linger and discuss. About art, about public spaces and about the Ruhr region. It is about the exchange of ideas and stories.
TRAILER
An essential part of the tour is a - gradually expanding - pool of works by (international) artists, which are individually presented and exhibited, but above all actually used. They shine from afar, provide warmth or protection from the rain, invite people to linger, exchange ideas and engage in discussion - and much more.
LITTLE ORANGE SNAIL - ANNA HAIFISCH
In her work, illustrator and comic author Anna Haifisch works with visual and narrative elements from design, comics and art history. The Little Orange Snail blanket she designed for the Grand Snail Tour makes her character dream of a snail and is an integral part of the trailer during the cold fall and winter months. It keeps the audience and performers warm in wind and weather.
TABLESCAPES - NILS NORMAN
Nils Norman works interdisciplinary in the fields of public art, architecture and urban planning. Inspired by local politics and ideas about alternative economic and ecological systems, his projects playfully and humorously challenge conventional wisdom in all three fields. His series of tables created for the Grand Snail Tour is based on partially cropped photographs of facades of different types of architecture in the region. Equipped with folding frames, they combine ideals of utility and flexibility with a local, individual and almost baroque design.
LOCAL BLACKOUTS - LÜTFIYE GÜZEL
Based on local newspapers and supplements from the region, which are sent to the author Lütfiye Güzel by project partners and passers-by, Local Blackouts are published in each city. As a poetic evaluation of the local news, Güzel successively creates 53 poems for the Grand Snail Tour by crossing out and blackening passages of text. Local reference and connection are conveyed on different levels in the project presented on conventional press displays: through the collaborative practice of collecting and sharing regional print products and their artistic appropriation by the author.
CHRONICLE
The Grand Snail Tour will be accompanied by artists from the fields of literature, photography and illustration, who will collect impressions and reflections from the same city at the same time as the Tourmobile's stay, and will then depict them visually or literarily. The result is a paratext on the three-year tour, which, in the form of a travel chronicle, reveals a kaleidoscope of stories, connections and snapshots in the 53 cities of the region as simultaneities and non-simultaneities of the Grand Snail Tour.
