In the Advent season 2024, the "Wuppertal Graffiti Nativity Scene" will once again be created on Laurentiusplatz in Wuppertal-Elberfeld. After ten graffiti nativity scenes from 2009-2018 and three artist nativity scenes by Annette Marks in 2019-2021, this will be the thirteenth graffiti nativity scene created by Wuppertal graffiti artist Martin "Megx" Heuwold. The graffiti and artist nativity scenes are now a permanent feature of the Advent and Christmas season in Wuppertal and are known far beyond the city limits. As the medieval Christmas market will not be taking place this year, Laurentiusplatz will still have an Advent and Christmas highlight in the form of the graffiti nativity scene.
The motto of this year's graffiti nativity scene is "From darkness to light". The central motif will be the "Advent calendar". The graffiti nativity scene will contain 24 little doors. Behind each door is a little surprise. As the Advent calendar is being designed this year in collaboration with "Proviel GmbH", a recognized workshop for people with disabilities - in the case of Proviel, specifically people with mental disabilities - it is currently planned that behind each door there will be a small work of art created by graffiti artist Martin "Megx" Heuwold together with Proviel employees. Every day from December 1, a door will be opened publicly at the graffiti nativity scene at midday.
On December 24th, the crib will be found behind the door.
As in previous years, the nativity scene will be created successively during Advent in various live actions. Work will begin in the first week of Advent (probably on December 1, 2024, the exact date will be announced shortly). On Christmas Eve, December 24, 2024, the baby Jesus will then arrive in the crib at 12 noon sharp as part of the first Christmas service in Wuppertal.

When the crib is completed, pastoral advisor Dr. Werner Kleine from the Catholic City Church in Wuppertal will sing the martyrology, the announcement of Christmas, in the old traditional way at the graffiti crib and proclaim the Christmas message according to the Gospel of Matthew. He will also blow the shofar horn - a Jewish instrument used to announce the arrival of the king, among other things.
With the completion of the graffiti nativity scene, the first Christmas service of 2024 in Wuppertal will begin at 12 noon.
