GOOD BYE, LENIN! - Filmreihe 35 Jahre Mauerfall

In the organizer's words:

35 years ago, the Berlin Wall was brought down and shortly afterwards an entire political system. The fall of the Wall was the symbolic climax of the peaceful revolution in the GDR - and so it was ultimately the courage of the people that went down in the history books.

To commemorate the events of 35 years ago, a series of films will be screened at the Roxy Lichtspielhaus in October, looking at the events and experiences of that time from different perspectives (sometimes East, sometimes West).

History is being made. Only for 21-year-old Alex (Daniel Brühl), nothing is progressing. Shortly before the fall of the Wall, his mother (Katrin Saß), a self-confident citizen of the GDR, falls into a coma after a heart attack and sleeps through the triumph of capitalism. When she miraculously opens her eyes again eight months later, she wakes up in a new country. She has not witnessed how Western cars and fast-food chains are overrunning the East, how Coca Cola is simply washing away decades of socialism, how what belongs together is hastily allowed to grow together. She is not allowed to experience any of this: her weak heart is too battered to survive the excitement.

Alex is not allowed a moment's respite. In order to save his mother, he now has to recreate the GDR in 79 square meters of prefabricated housing. He soon realizes that this plan is more difficult to implement than expected...
