An in-house production of the Hamburger Sprechwerk
as part of the series "Wortgefechte"
by Konstanze Ullmer
With: Marion Gretchen Schmitz, Naomi O'Taylor, Christine Wilhelmi
Directed by: Konstanze Ullmer
Martha is a sarcastic middle-aged woman. Her basic attitude towards life: Angry!
She earns her living as a cab driver. She is often at odds with Wanda, her grown-up daughter; Wanda doesn't want to repeat what she sees as her mother's failed life, she wants to do better. A husband, career and two children - that shouldn't be a problem these days.
Martha reflects: Where was the turn-off she should have taken? Where did the hopeful, talented, confident young Martha with the golden prospects for the future get lost? Where would she be today if she were not a woman but a man?
Karin, Martha's deceased mother, can't resist interfering and whispering her view of things into Martha's ear.
The play poses questions with wit and malice, the answers to which are a major task for politics. What adjustments do we need to make as a society in order to remedy the structural inequality of women, which changes little from generation to generation?
