GESCHWISTER - KARDEŞLER Thomas Arslan D 1996 OmeU 84' Erol, Ahmed and Leyla are siblings and live with their parents in Berlin-Kreuzberg. Their father is Turkish, their mother German. When Erol (Tamer Yiğit) is out and about in the neighborhood between Kottbusser Tor and Görlitzer Bahnhof, and he often is, he always meets someone to whom he owes money. While Ahmed (Savaş Yurderi) is calmly heading towards his A-levels and quick-witted Leyla (Serpil Turhan) is doing an apprenticeship in sewing, Erol is a drifter. His only prospect is military service in Turkey, which he wants to do despite criticism. Family quarrels, love affairs, small escapes, clique slang and long walks through SO 36 - in every scene, everyday observations are mixed with formal condensation, anchoring the film firmly in the world of experience of the German-Turkish youths played by non-professionals.
