Blazing heat and floods of the century: How is the climate crisis changing our gardens - the green refuges of private retreat? A question that the flower artist and photographer Cornelia Weber raises in a metaphorically exaggerated way. What is our mental and physical state in a time that many find overwhelming and threatening? Plant, leaf, blossom and fruit thus become central elements in the artist's visual language.
From an art historical perspective, the subject of the floral still life has always been about much more than simply reproducing its technically successful image. The flower has been charged with meaning by artists of all eras. They have symbolized beauty and transience, innocence and seduction, wealth, exoticism and the hope of rebirth in the eternal cycle of life. In her photographic works, Cornelia Weber uses the flower to explore her own relationship to the world, to describe and visualize her "inner garden".
Cornelia Weber worked for many years as a freelance photographer for German and international interior magazines. In 2019, she began growing the flowers she works with in her garden. The resulting proximity to the growth cycle of the plants and the deep satisfaction that arises when what has been sown thrives have given her work new artistic impetus.
The vernissage on Thursday, September 19 at 7.30 pm offers the opportunity to get to know the flower artist personally and to talk to her. You are very welcome!
