The conservators of the LVR-LandesMuseum Bonn will take you into the temporary mosaic workshop in the museum and give you exclusive insights into the work on the Roman "Medusa Mosaic".
In 1904, workers discovered a sensational find in the area of the former Roman legionary camp in Bonn: an almost completely preserved floor mosaic - a rarity in a military camp north of the Alps. For 40 years, the floor mosaic was on display in Bonn's Provinzialmuseum, the predecessor of today's Landesmuseum, before it fell victim to an aerial bomb in December 1944. After unsuccessful restoration attempts and eight decades later, the surviving fragments and individual pieces of the mosaic are being reassembled into a complete picture in front of the public as part of a restoration project.
