Frieden lernen in Zeiten des Krieges - Online-Veranstaltung zur Friedensbildungsarbeit und zur Ausstellung „Gesichter des Friedens“ des forumZFD

In the organizer's words:

Images of war and violence currently dominate the news. And yet they still exist - people who overcome enmities and work towards coexistence without violence. All too often, their commitment and their stories remain invisible. For our peace-building work, we have designed an exhibition that makes them visible. The "Faces of Peace" exhibition is used in schools and in public. It presents ten people who have experienced war and flight themselves and who are using these experiences to campaign for peace.

The effects of global crises and conflicts as well as social tensions and polarization can also be felt in German classrooms. Again and again, the question is how we want to live together in the future. How can we help shape a more peaceful and just future? At the online event, you will learn how our peace education work contributes to talking to schoolchildren about conflicts and preventing "us-versus-them" thinking - with the help of the exhibition, but also through a variety of workshop formats and materials. Last but not least, you will gain insights into the moving stories of the protagonists of our exhibition.

One "face of peace" takes center stage: Judy Al Chalabi grew up in Syria. She witnessed the beginning of the protests in 2011 and how the regime responded with brutal violence. As the war escalated, she dared to make the dangerous escape to Europe. She graduated from school in Germany and is now a student. In her free time, she and her friend Batoul Almahmoud are involved in the "Molham Volunteering Team", a humanitarian organization that helps refugees in Syria and neighbouring countries. The two friends also give peace education workshops at schools for forumZFD.
