FREIRAUM Salon #36 - "Immersive India: Über Kama, Kunst und Katharsis" with Felizitas Stilleke & Ben J. Riepe

Ben J. Riepe and the curator and dramaturge Felizitas Stilleke have been connected for many years through joint research projects; Felizitas has also repeatedly accompanied productions of the Ben J. Riepe company as Outside Eye.
In the context of their current joint research on questions of gathering, ritual and spirituality in art, Felizitas will travel to India in February 2025. Along the Ganges, which is gaining a lot of publicity this year, especially due to the greatest festival of humanity (the Maha Kumbh Mela), she travels from Prayagraj to Rishikesh: from the source of the river to the place where many pilgrims are currently taking a holy bath and celebrating countless rituals, spiritual gatherings and the principle of community. With the openness of all her five senses and a dilated third eye, she will experience immersive spaces and the spiritual power of gatherings during the two-week tour and bring her impressions back to the origin of art: the rituals that provide our society with visions and utopias.
At FREIRAUM - Salon #36, Felizitas will present her fresh experiences and thoughts directly after her journey. The salon will open with a half-hour joint Breath Work session led by Ben Riepe, who has also traveled and worked in India many times (including as part of the Goethe-Institut's Bangalore residency). Afterwards, the traveler will take us on a short sound journey that opens up an acoustic and sensual approach to her travel impressions. In an exchange with Ben J. Riepe, questions about the relevance of physical and sensory experiences as well as immersive spaces in the artistic work of (not only) the Ben J. Riepe company will be examined.
