Freie Bande - short film evenings

"As an association that has set itself the goal of promoting democracy and non-discriminatory coexistence, Freie Bande e.V. will be organizing regular short film evenings from 2025. Each short film evening will have a politically or socially relevant theme. Possible topics include sex work, experiences of flight, homelessness, addiction, poverty and much more. Only films that deal with the respective topic will be shown each evening.

As the short film landscape is very colorful and diverse, this makes it possible to approach the topic of the evening in different ways, which enables a playful and entertaining approach, especially for topics with potential for tension. Hardly any other medium manages to capture and reflect people's different perspectives as well as film.

And in our opinion, this is a prerequisite for humane and constructive debates about social and political emergencies. With the short film evenings, we want to break down prejudices and encourage people to think.

Each short film evening is intended to offer an open circle of exchange following the films. To this end, we would like to invite an expert on each topic. Here, too, it is important to us that it is not a monologue format, but that the focus is on exchange.

Our priority is therefore not to invite experts who only talk about the affected group of people, but to invite people who have been or are affected themselves and who draw their expertise from this experience. The topics
are announced a few weeks in advance."
