In the organizer's words:

From liquids to long exposures: the focus here is on colors, shapes and structures. A workshop for experimenting.

Immerse yourself in wacky, colorful visual worlds and give free rein to your creative experimentation!

With a lot of fun in the use of light, targeted image composition and the misappropriation of some objects, we create unusual images beyond representational depiction. So it's less about what exactly we capture on the sensor and more about how we photograph something.

Through the clever use of image composition and staging, everyday objects are suddenly transformed into fascinating, sometimes seemingly painterly compositions of color and light. Using long exposures and reflections , we create completely new, unexpected graphic impressions and by playing with different liquids and colors, there are endless variations on how we can make our photos even more exciting.

Procedure and topics in the photo course

  • Introduction to abstract photography
  • Creative shooting techniques
  • Set construction with simple means
  • Introduction to flash technique & continuous light
  • Working with macro lenses and extension rings
  • Image processing & RAW workflow
  • Lots of suggestions, ideas and fresh inspiration

In this workshop, we mainly work with prepared experimental sets in the studio and introduce various shooting techniques for abstraction. The setups can all be recreated at home with little effort , so that the photo course can serve as a source of inspiration for further ideas of your own.

You can try out, trick and vary to your heart's content. All you need is a love of creative experimentation and a manually adjustable camera.

Equipment

  • SLR or system/compact camera with flash shoe, manually adjustable
  • Tripod, if available
  • Standard lens (zoom or fixed focal length) or light telephoto lens
  • Macro lens or extension rings, if available

Macro hardware for the most common camera manufacturers (standard bayonet mounts for Canon, Nikon, Sony, Panasonic, Olympus) will be provided on loan during the workshop.
