Come to FILMFEST HAMBURG and immerse yourself in Réda's life

Stages of an escalation: In a powerful allegory, the drama tells of the patriarchal power of the father's generation in Algeria. Réda lives with his parents in a middle-class neighborhood in Algiers. He holds a high position in Algeria's largest gas and oil company, which is run by his authoritarian father. Despite his position, Réda feels a deep sense of unease: he is unable to emancipate himself from his father - unlike his brother, who openly rebels. More and more often, Réda's frustration leads to increasingly violent outbursts. When his father dies, Réda makes a startling discovery: his reflection disappears.

KARIM MOUSSAOUI (*1976 in Algeria) worked as a film curator in Algiers before he began making his own films. His medium-length film The Days Before (2013) received several awards and a nomination for the César. FILMFEST HAMBURG screened his feature film debut Until the Birds Return in 2017.
