Feridun Zaimoglu: Sohn ohne Vater

Sohn ohne Vater (Son without a Father) is a haunting tale of a grieving son, the cohesion of a family, deceptive memories and a journey to a foreign country - to his mother and his dead father.

The narrator, a writer from Kiel, suffers from a fear of flying. He asks two friends to take him with them in their camper van to support his mother at his father's grave and to say goodbye. The friends plan the journey together: via Linz, Szeged and Edirne to Edremit and back. Over five thousand kilometers. It is the beginning of an adventurous road trip across Europe, characterized by the shimmering memories of their father and his many lives.

Feridun Zaimoglu works as an author, screenwriter and playwright in Kiel. He has received numerous awards for his writing.

Thomas Schaefer is a freelance editor, literary critic and author for taz, Titanic, Eulenspiegel and konkret, among others.
