Felix Wiegand-Quartett feat. Hussein Mahmoud - "Desert Songs"

In the organizer's words:

The new program by composer and double bassist Felix Wiegand.
Music, compositions, songs and pieces on the theme of the desert.

The vastness, the beauty and the sound of the music of the desert regions have inspired jazz musicians for generations.

Felix Wiegand has long been interested in oriental music, its tonalities, timbres and rhythms. He has always had a great fascination for the desert and has now put together a program of his own compositions and pieces by other composers arranged for this quintet.
As in his previous programs, the focus of the music is on modern contemporary jazz, enhanced by harmonic and melodic excursions into the world and sound of the desert region.
Especially for this project, the Felix Wiegand Quartet will be expanded into a quintet with the exceptional Syrian musician Hussein Mahmoud on the traditional sas.
In addition to the characteristic soundscapes of the compositions, there is always plenty of room for improvisation by the individual musicians and plenty of opportunity for spontaneous interaction.

Instrumentation:
Felix Wiegand - composition, double bass
Felix Schneider - piano, keyboard
Hubert Winter - sax, flute
Jonas Sorgenfrei - drums, percussion
Special Guest: Hussein Mahmoud - Saz, Baglama
