New York in the early 1990s. In his early 20s, stockbroker Jordan Belfort quickly rises to become a multi-millionaire with his brokerage firm. He is soon known mainly by his new nickname "Wolf of Wall Street". He uses his wealth to finance a dissolute lifestyle characterized by alcohol, drugs, sex and decadence. However, driven by insatiable greed, he and his "wolf gang" soon get involved in illegal deals that attract the attention of the law. As the law slowly catches up with Jordan, his entire house of cards threatens to collapse.
