Faschingskonzert mit Karl Valentin - Die Zukunft war früher auch besser

To sing a hymn to Karl Valentin's ingenious humorous and satirical creativity is to carry owls to Athens. His bon mots have become part of the general (Bavarian) language, the scurrility of his sketches combined with his virtuoso treatment of words have created a whole new genre.

All this makes Karl Valentin's scenes timeless. Anyone who captures "the people" in their idiosyncrasies and peculiarities so precisely will always remain relevant. Perhaps it is precisely because of this oversize and ingenuity that no composer has really dared to tackle them. Sebastian Schwab, born in Munich in 1993, is so daring. He sets selected texts by Karl Valentin to songs that are premiered at the Bergson Kunstkraftwerk.

Schwab had a huge success with his opera "Der Räuber Hotzenplotz", which has been selling out performances at the Stuttgart State Opera for two years now. Franz Hawlata sings the title role. He, who has made guest appearances at all the world's major opera houses - whether Vienna, New York, Bayreuth, Salzburg or Milan - will also be singing the Karl Valentin scenes for the first time.

Together with pianist Fritz Schwinghammer, he has also selected ballads by Carl Loewe and "Bestial Ballads" by Douglas Victor Brown. The mixture results in a whimsical, subtle program that guarantees you the ideal entertainment for carnival Sunday - whether you are a carnivalist or a carnival grouch!
