Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy's Violin Concerto is a bridge between the form-conscious style of the Classical period and the individual expressive world of Romanticism. Flowing melodies and a refined form have made it one of the most popular works in the repertoire. The fact that Mendelssohn worked restlessly on it for a whole six years is evident at every moment. The virtuoso solo part is in the best hands with Clara-Yumi Kang, who is appreciated worldwide for her consummate technique and musicality. Peter Tchaikovsky struggled with his fate. His "Fifth", with its omnipresent "fate motif", is the musical blueprint of his inner emotional drama. During the composition, he was often overcome by doubts, questioned his work as a composer and was of the opinion until the end that his Symphony No. 5 was a failure.
