'Fargo' by the brothers Ethan and Joel Coen is set in the Midwest and takes place in the depths of winter.
Fargo' is about human morality, actually the absence of it. This movie is based on a true story and defies some of the basic rules of 'Hollywood story telling'. Nevertheless, or perhaps because of this, this movie is very human. The main characters stumble through the story as if abandoned by all good spirits. There are plenty of dead bodies, but unlike in 'Pulp Fiction', for example, there is no tension or unease. The production has some strong traits of the grotesque, especially when it comes to local color. More by chance and without any inevitability, good triumphs in the end. The consistently excellent cast, which manages without any big names, is what makes this movie absolutely worth seeing.
