About the movie:

The protagonist Farahnaz was brought up as a boy according to the Afghan "Bacha Posh" tradition and confronted from an early age with a binary structured society and its gender-based role ascription. "Bacha Posh" is a practice that enables families without sons to fulfill the role required by the patriarchal system within the family context by disguising one of their daughters as a boy until puberty.

The film combines documentary footage with TikTok-style selfie videos and follows the protagonist in moments of self-staging, dreaming up self-images and the heartbreak when these dreams, whether big or small, are shattered. Farahnaz confidently positions herself in a society that differs from the one she was born into, but is determined by its own norms, and renegotiates the roles assigned to her by society - as a migrant in Germany, as a girl in boys' clothes, as a family member and as a friend.

The film screening will be accompanied by the group ROSA e.V. Düsseldorf. ROSA e.V. is a German association that supports refugee women and female-identified people and children in refugee camps in Greece and takes a gender-sensitive approach to humanitarian aid. There is a truck on site that drives to three different camps and offers a safe space to the women, female refugees and children there. In addition to the film screening, you will have the opportunity to visit the mobile exhibition of ROSA e.V. and learn more about their work. The exhibition will be installed in a new ROSA e.V. truck, which will soon be supporting the work in Greece. Before it travels there, it will show insights into the work of ROSA e.V. in Greece and Germany in various German cities.
