Familienabend - Nie wieder ist Jetzt!

Hamas' terrorist attack on Israel took place on October 7 - since then, events have come thick and fast. Here in Germany, we are experiencing both expressions of solidarity and calls for humanitarian aid in the media and on the streets, as well as hatred, exclusion and violence.

It is the duty of German society to protect Jewish life in Germany. Jews must be able to live freely and safely in Germany without fear of openly displaying their religion or culture.

Taking action against anti-Semitism, as well as against racism, discrimination and exclusion - that is the responsibility of all of us, no matter where and when! Even if we are unable to make a major contribution, we would like to use the revival of our production "Family Evening" as an emphatic reminder of our responsibility to German society as a whole: Never again is now!

"Family Evening - A Reminder for the Future" is a production that we developed in 2018 based on the Stolpersteine in Stuttgart. The Stolpersteine are the largest decentralized Holocaust memorial in the world. They not only warn: "Don't forget!", but above all: "Don't forget us!" They connect the past and present through their spatial assignment, because the people they commemorate lived in the houses that still characterize the cityscape today and give people a home.

Like a family, during the performances we are guests of the people who now live in the apartments on whose doorstep a Stumbling Stone was laid. We share with them the memories of the former residents who were deported from there. In a family setting, stories, documents and mementos bring the deportees back to life for a moment, anchoring them in the memory of our society. By entering the apartment, a change of perspective takes place, which challenges a personal and active discussion and thus forms a new community of experience on our "family evening". Living memory, which prevents us from forgetting, can only come about through joint discussion.
At Stitzenburgstraße 17, we will bring the fate of the Kahn family to life thanks to Hannelore Marx's biography.
