There is a multi-level construction on stage, doors open and close, four performers enter the space, cross it, their paths cross and the perfectly coordinated choreography picks up speed. Soon the four are running, climbing high, carrying and somersaulting, pushing off and catching each other, while the entire stage set begins to shake around them. A constant struggle for balance unfolds in "EXIT" in the spectacular installation of walls and doors that turn, float, tilt and have to be constantly rebalanced. Every step carries the risk of falling. Every moment demands absolute vigilance. Every touch negotiates the relationship between closeness and distance. Independence and community become a balancing act:
Individual aspirations and the need to trust each other are constantly being explored anew. The dynamic stage design repeatedly pushes the artists to their limits, the doors that swing open and closed become thresholds at which they have to decide - to take a step into the unknown or to pause in safety. And time and time again, it becomes clear that they can only balance the dizzying slopes of their world together. "EXIT" is a daring flirtation with risk, a poetic dance on the edge of losing one's balance and a miracle of acrobatic precision.
Under the artistic direction of Flemish choreographer Piet Van Dycke, the Circumstances collective, founded in 2021, combines circus and dance. Van Dycke's choreographies are always characterized by a clear, seemingly mathematical structure and celebrate great success throughout Europe.
