In his first institutional solo exhibition, artist Jakub Choma translates elements from digital game worlds into a spatial installation that captivates the audience with its intricately layered structures, hybrid material combinations, and chaotic-artificial aesthetic.
He transforms the exhibition hall of the Heidelberger Kunstverein into a dungeon-like terrain that visitors can explore like an open-world level. The title Healing Through Fatigue refers to a familiar gaming trope: the loss of a character's vitality when straying beyond predefined game boundaries. Yet, where exhaustion in games often leads to death, Choma sees the potential for self-empowerment through artistic strategies.
The complex layering and interplay of digital and analog structures in Choma's artistic practice engage with contemporary discussions around what is termed Post-Internet-the idea that the internet has permeated all areas of life, continues to expand, and that even physical reality is always infused with digital logic.
#JakubChoma was born in 1995 in Košice, Slovakia. From 2014 to 2023, he studied Fine Arts at the Academy of Arts, Architecture, and Design (AAAD) in Prague, where he currently lives.
