The Living Universe - The Living Universe
Experience the universe! ESO Supernova is home to a fascinating, modern and interactive astronomical exhibition that is as entertaining as it is educational. Explore, touch and use real astronomical artifacts; find out what it means to be an astronomer, work in science and explore the mysteries of the universe by conducting experiments yourself.
Our permanent exhibition is called The Living Universe and covers the topic of life in the universe in the broadest sense. It brings you closer to seemingly distant and abstract topics by establishing a link between humans and the universe, astronomy in general, life in the universe and our observations of the universe with the help of ESO facilities.
The exhibition was developed by Design und Mehr in collaboration with HITS gGmbH and ESO.
Explore all 13 independent topics on the 2200m2 exhibition space or focus on your personal areas of interest! For each item in the exhibition, you are free to choose how deep you want to delve into astronomical knowledge.
How long you need to visit the exhibition depends entirely on you - 30 minutes for a quick tour or four hours for a detailed study of all the exhibits. Or you can plan several visits and focus on a different part of the exhibition each time!
The exhibition is also aimed at teachers and educators from Bavaria, Germany and abroad, as it includes various concepts from the curricula. Teachers are thus given the opportunity to use parts of the exhibition to support and expand their lessons.
All information in the exhibition is available in German and English. Access to the exhibition is free of charge!
