New Orleans. Blanche DuBois comes to stay with her sister Stella and her husband Stanley Kowalski. She has lost everything: Her family estate is gone, her job as a teacher is also passé. She finds it difficult to come to terms with what has happened to her. The descent into everyday life in the city, away from her aristocratic dream, makes her increasingly unstable. In her state, she clashes with the coarse, simple and violent Stanley - who hates her. When Blanche finally makes herself beautiful for an admirer who doesn't even exist, when Stella can't believe that Stanley raped her, when she is committed to a psychiatric institution, the low point is reached: the end of the line for longing.
