EL*KE: The rebirth of a rock legend
In the ever-changing German rock scene, there are few bands that have left such a lasting impression as EL*KE. Originally from Haren in Emsland, they took the music landscape by storm with their unmistakable style and explosive energy. Their name, inspired by a distinctive license plate that was always present at their gigs, is now synonymous with raw, unadulterated rock music. EL*KE began their journey in the early 2000s and moved to Berlin in late 2002 to realize their musical ambitions. Their career quickly took off, and they quickly made a name for themselves with powerful albums and rousing live performances. Their debut album "Wilder Westen", produced by Olaf O.P.A.L. and released in August 2005, set a new standard for German rock music. The band gained fame through numerous appearances at renowned events such as the Boarderweek in Val Thorens and the Taubertal Openair Festival. A particular highlight of their career was their performance on September 10, 2005 at the final concert of Die Toten Hosen's "Friss oder stirb" tour, where they rocked the stage alongside New Model Army and the Beatsteaks. Their second album, "Wir müssen hier raus", was released in January 2007 and showed the band in top form. With songs such as "Ich mag dich" and "Traumfrau", they once again proved their ability to create powerful and catchy rock anthems. A particular highlight of their career was their involvement in the soundtrack of the film "Die Welle" in March 2008, when EL*KE delivered an impressive cover version of the Ramones classic "Rock 'n' Roll High School", which was performed by actor Jürgen Vogel in the film.
The third album "Häuser stürzen ein" was released on July 4, 2008 and showed the band at its best. With contributions such as the track "Warum auch immer" written by Farin Urlaub and accompanying Billy Idol on his German tour in summer 2008, as well as appearances at Rock am Ring and Rock im Park, EL*KE once again proved their versatility and tireless drive. After the release of their third album "Häuser stürzen ein" in July 2008 and appearances with the likes of Billy Idol and Iggy Pop & The Stooges, as well as festivals such as Deichbrand, Rock am Ring and Rock im Park, EL*KE took a longer break in 2009. But the year 2023 marked an exciting turning point in the history of EL*KE. With a new band line-up, they returned to the stage in June 2023 and celebrated their LIVE comeback in front of 10,000 enthusiastic fans at the Lautfeuer Festival in Lingen. This triumphant performance showed that the passion and energy that define EL*KE have lost none of their intensity. 2024 will be a special year for EL*KE fans. The band is planning to release a tribute EP entitled "EL*KE spielt Gundermann". This EP is a tribute to the legendary German singer-songwriter Gerhard Gundermann. Known for his profound and socially critical lyrics, Gundermann has had a lasting influence on the German music scene. EL*KE's interpretation of his songs is sure to offer an exciting mix of Gundermann's poetic depth and EL*KE's energetic rock sound. This EP showcases the band's versatility and musicianship as they take on new challenges while honoring their roots. But that's not all: EL*KE will release a brand new album in 2025. Details on the new album are still scarce, but fans can be sure that EL*KE will maintain their signature powerful and pure rock sound, enriched with fresh influences and new musical ideas. EL*KE are more than just a band - they are a phenomenon, living proof that real rock 'n' roll never dies. With their unmistakable blend of powerful riffs and profound lyrics, their unwavering passion and authentic style, they have ushered in a new era in their career and are ready to continue writing their story.
