EL Loko (1950–2016): Kunst, Kolonialismus und Migration im Deutschland der Gegenwart

In the organizer's words:

Art and literature talk with Dr. Stefan Eisenhofer, Dr. Ibrahima Sene and PD Dr. Richard Hölzl (moderator) on Wednesday, 26 March 2025 at 7 pm as part of the International Weeks against Racism 2025.

EL Loko (Edoh Lucien Loko, 1950-2016) was a Togolese-German painter and writer. He would have been 75 years old this year. Loko studied at the Düsseldorf Art Academy under Joseph Beuys. In addition to recognition as an artist, EL Loko also experienced marginalization and disdain. After graduating, he was threatened with expulsion from Germany. He wrote about his experiences, which are still shared by many migrants today, in his autobiography Der Blues in mir (1986). Works acquired by the Museum Fünf Kontinente from EL Loko will be shown during the discussion about his oeuvre.
