The young Moroccan Samir has been dreaming of this moment all his life, of finally coming home.

Samir was brought up in the Berber mountains by a Christian missionary from Germany, and now he finds it difficult to identify with the Moroccans around him. With his foster mother came German children's songs, the Christian faith and the dream of an unknown homeland. As soon as all the hurdles have been overcome, Samir is ready to turn his back on his alienated environment.

At the age of 28, Samir starts his new life where he really wants to be - in the depths of Bavaria. Surrounded by the picturesque backdrop of Lake Tegernsee, we follow Samir once again in his search for belonging and on an ambivalent journey through the heart of a society.

Filmed over a period of 5 years, ONE OF US provides a glimpse behind the scenes of two contrasting places - the Oriental Marrakech and the Bavarian Alps - and shows a personal metamorphosis, from the inside as well as from the outside.
