World premiere

Thirteen days after the death of her mother in 1986, Annie Ernaux writes a short, painful requiem. And resurrects her mother as a representative of a time and a milieu that was also hers. The 2022 Nobel Prize winner for literature looks back on the life of her mother, who struggled throughout her life to maintain her social status, perhaps even to overcome it. Only her daughter succeeded in doing so, creating an unbridgeable distance between the two. Together with the ensemble, director Sarah Kurze has developed a stage version based on Ernaux's novel.

Note on the content of the production

Tears flowed. [...] The loss of a person is extremely powerful on stage. Yes, theater can do that. Much more than the text alone, this stage version has what it takes to intensify emotions to the point of inconsolability.
