Ever since Ferdinand Schmalz was voted Young Playwright of the Year 2014 with his first play "am beispiel der butter", it has been impossible to imagine contemporary drama without him. His plays oscillate between ruthlessness and harshness and a whimsical, humorous tone. He received the Ingeborg Bachmann Prize in 2017 for the reading from his debut novel "Mein Lieblingstier heißt Winter", and last year he gave the Klagenfurt Speech on Literature.

In January, Ferdinand Schmalz will be a guest at the Salon zu neuer Dramatik and, together with actresses Shirin Eissa and Judith Goldberg, will read from his rewriting of the Nibelungen saga "hildensaga. ein königinnendrama", which he wrote for the Nibelungen Festival in Worms. In it, the tide turns: Kriemhild and Brünhild break out of the constraints of their predetermined roles and join forces against the "heroes". The time of Hilden has dawned.
