EDWIN ROSEN - The Stars Tour

After the first mysterious songs "leichter//kälter" and "Die Sonne in deinem Zimmer", which were sprinkled without much information, you should have Edwin Rosen on your radar by now. This exceptional artist in his early twenties, whose songs, with their stoically longing self-productions, psychedelic soundscapes and sonorous vocals, move skillfully between new wave and dark wave, post-punk and synth-pop.

The fact that not only Edwin Rosen himself describes this musical melange as a new German wave, which has meanwhile influenced an entire generation of young musicians, is only consistent. Growing up in Stuttgart, his life was made up of two components from an early age. In the evenings, he attended sweaty hardcore and pop-punk shows in the local basement club; during the day, he explored his own city and the surrounding area on his skateboard. The soundtrack of the accompanying videos and his father's record collection do the rest.

With DAW and drum computer, the first covers are created. Maybe not quite on point yet, but with just the right mix of presumption, enthusiasm and captious beauty, which ultimately also make up the charm of Edwin Rosen's first single "leichter//kälter". Originally released into the blue at the beginning of 2020, it soon hits the bull's eye and makes it to number 6 in the single trend charts.

But what to do when a worldwide pandemic puts the brakes on the headlining tour to the hype? Edwin Rosen swaps the idea of first stage shows for being a bed producer again and finally releases the 5-track EP "mitleerenhänden" in 2021. Full of music that is cold and warm at the same time: synths that seem to waft out of Berlin pre-turnaround basements, but also guitar melodies that warm the heart. On the one hand historical references from the most exciting era of German-language pop music, but on the other hand a sound that sounds as if it has fallen out of time. All held together by Edwin's unique sepulchral voice, which sings of sadness, but in its timbre announces hope.

Still in the same year it goes on stage. First in the Komma Esslingen, Edwin's home store, then in Hamburg, Cologne, Berlin and at the Reeperbahn Festival. Edwin then takes the stage on his own sold-out tour, eventually playing a full 60 gigs in 2022. "Of course you see the streaming numbers, but it's never been that tangible," recalls Edwin Rosen. "I didn't realize what it all meant and how many people liked my music until I suddenly stood on stage last year and looked into the faces of 3,000 people."

What has changed since then? "Actually, everything is the same as always," says Edwin Rosen, who spent the first half of 2023 working on a new EP. Still post-punk aesthetics, still new wave nuances, but just also the soundscape of Scandi rap from Yung Lean to Bladee and a whole flock of new synthesizers. "The new songs are a little darker and faster, but still circle around the core of what you know from my music," explains Edwin Rosen.

How that sounds, Edwin Rosen gives a first preview with the new single "Die Sterne": Stumbling set pieces of percussion and drums and synths cutting through the melancholy, to which Edwin's unique voice, sounds from very far away. Helpless and without orientation, without a real idea where to go with himself. But somehow full of hope and acceptance that everything will be alright.

The song "Die Sterne", which will be released on 02.06.2023, is the first harbinger of the EP of the same name, which will be released in the summer of 2023. From 02.11.2023 Edwin Rosen is also on the road on a big "Die Sterne" tour in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Before that, he will play the entire summer at festivals such as Melt!, Hurricane, Southside or PULS Open Air.
