Eames Roadshow

In the organizer's words:

The international Eames Roadshow is making a stop at the Architektenkammer.NRW in Düsseldorf until April 7, 2025. The show conveys the collaboration between Charles and Ray Eames and the Swiss design furniture manufacturer Vitra.

The installation highlights various aspects of the designer couple's multifaceted work, provides insights into the legendary Eames House in Pacific Palisades (Los Angeles) and uses various products to highlight Ray and Charles Eames' creative approach and Vitra's technical expertise.

Charles (1907-78) and Ray Eames (1912-88), two of the most influential American designers of the 20th century, created an impressive oeuvre that includes architecture, interior design and exhibitions as well as fine art, toys and films. They are best known for their furniture designs, for which Vitra has been the only legitimate manufacturer in Europe and the Middle East since 1956.

The association with the Eames was of fundamental importance to Vitra. A chance encounter with one of their chairs was the catalyst for the company's first steps as a furniture manufacturer, and since then the Eames' design philosophy has shaped Vitra's values, visions and goals. The close connection between the Eames Office and Vitra continues today, in the third generation of the two families.
