DUKE & DUKIES

EUROPEAN SWING IN THE TRADITION OF DJANGO REINHARDT.

When Duke & Dukies get rolling, there's no stopping them. The pumping French guitars and the driving double bass get the crowd dancing - from 0 to 100 in a second. This is virtuoso, glamorous gypsy swing at its best. For dancers and connoisseurs, for adventurers and romantics.

While the air tastes of a sip of wine and you imagine yourself in a small Parisian café, the sounds of a ravishing boleros ensnare you. The otherwise unbridled guitars suddenly become very tame and the languorous sounds of the violin melt your heart - only to fire off exploding solos again in the next track. As if that wasn't enough, the multi-faceted vocals crown the whole arrangement.

The Dukies feel at home in the ambience of the Spiegelsaal (MfKG, Hamburg) and the Logensaal (Kammerspiele, Hamburg), as well as in smoky jazz clubs (Birdland, Hamburg), the Boheme Sauvage (Hamburg, Berlin, Cologne) or at the Django Reinhardt Festival (Fontainebleau, France). The gentlemen are dressed in fine threads, the shoes are welted, but the instruments always remain close, the atmosphere is always intimate.

The ensemble consists of two French guitars, double bass, violin and vocals. At a Dukies concert, you can hear original gypsy jazz gems as well as light borrowings from other related genres and original compositions. These round off the repertoire in a variety of ways - sometimes powerful and fiery, sometimes tender and sweet.
