Play by Wolfgang Borchert
The young soldier Beckmann returns from Russia after the Second World War - physically and mentally broken. He finds his home in Germany in ruins, his wife has another man and his son is dead. Tired of life, he wants to jump into the Elbe, but a passer-by prevents him from doing so. In addition to this woman, Beckmann encounters several other people on his tour of Hamburg: a colonel who refuses to take responsibility, a suspicious theater director, the new tenant of his parents' apartment and a mysterious "other". Will there be any hope for him in this completely destroyed post-war Germany?
The play "Outside the Door" is considered the most important drama in German post-war literature. Since the end of the Second World War, it has been performed incessantly throughout Germany. Theater Courage is presenting another stage version of the well-known play, the premiere of which in 1947 the author Wolfgang Borchert, who died far too young at the age of 26, did not live to see.
