Don Giovanni

Everyone loves Don Giovanni. If not the character, then at least the opera. Mozart's musical brilliance, his complex characterization of the figures and the seamless fusion of drama and music serve to create a captivating masterpiece that ranges from highly comic to deeply tragic moments. It is about temptation, violence and lies, about courage, pride and joie de vivre, about melancholy and sensuality, about social differences, about illusory identities, about desire.

The ambivalent figure of Don Giovanni is regarded as the archetype of the seducer. No matter who the woman is and what she looks like - he wants to sleep with her. In order to achieve his goal, he married Donna Elvira and then immediately left her. With a promise of marriage, he also tries to take the bride Zerlina away from her fiancé Masetto by playing on his high status. Don Giovanni uses violence against Donna Anna, whom he tries to force to give in to his advances, and against her father, the Commendatore, whom he murders.

With the Commendatore's death, an order that had guided everyone disappears. Abysses open up. Each character is confronted with their deepest fears, but is also given the opportunity to free themselves.

The members of the Berlin music theater collective "Hauen und Stechen" Franziska Kronfoth, Christina Schmitt and Martin Mallon, known for their contemporary, breathtaking opera productions (Staatsoper Stuttgart, Theater Bremen, Deutsche Oper Berlin), are making their first guest appearance in Schwerin. Together with the ensemble, they develop captivating characters who embark on a journey through the night.
