Witness when theHaus is transformed into a stylish movie salon. Erwin Ditzner (Future Jazz RLP Award Winner 2024) and his musical guests will revive the glamor and fascination of the silent movie era.

The satirical comedy "Show People" (USA 1928, 79 min) by King Vidor offers hilarious insights into filmmaking in early Hollywood. Made shortly after the introduction of sound film, the film is considered one of the most successful self-reflections on silent film and was screened at the 70th Berlinale in honor of King Vidor with great success. The naive Peggy comes from the country and wants to make a career in the dream factory. She meets a young comedian who introduces her to the finer points of the business and falls in love with her. The country girl is soon discovered by one of the big producers and rises to become a diva-like movie star. The genres from slapstick to melodrama to costume drama are taken for a ride with her filming. Numerous stars such as Charlie Chaplin, Douglas Fairbancks and Gloria Swanson make self-deprecating guest appearances.

As the sound and film tracks could not be recorded together in the early years of the film, the films were accompanied by live music - a role played by drummer Ditzner together with other top-class jazz greats. Join us for an evening full of passion and improvisation, always new and unique.

Before the screening, Dr. Morticia Zschiesche, film scholar and curator of the series, will introduce the film with a short lecture. Afterwards, we cordially invite you to join us for a lively bar conversation about film and jazz over a glass of good wine and small treats.
