You will also have the opportunity to talk to Maurizio, the producer and co-founder of the cooperative. He brings the Mediterranean delicacies directly from the sun of Calabria to us in Markkleeberg.

All Cooperativa products come from the Calabria region in the south of Italy. No chemicals are used in their cultivation, so the skin of the fruit can be used without hesitation. The fruit is best stored in a cool place, even outside, in a cellar or garage. The main thing is to keep them frost-free and protected from the rain.

The fruits are harvested when ripe just before transportation. They then need about a week to get from the field to your table. An Italian shipping company collects the pre-packed pallets directly from Gioiosa Ionica. In between, they are reloaded in northern Italy and then transported directly to us in the Dresden region.

Thanks to the rapid and needs-based transportation, no chemicals are used here that slow down the ripening process.

The Nelson Mandela Social Cooperative promotes the social integration of young, disadvantaged people in Italy. It was founded in 2017 in Gioiosa Ionica in the province of Reggio Calabria by a group of local development experts, social workers and cultural actors.
