"There is no secret knowledge that makes us mothers. But everyone expects us to never make a mistake with the child from the second it is born because we supposedly have an instinct for it."
Three women struggling with their expectations of family, friendship and the promise of happiness:
Mareike Fallwickl's successful novel asks how a life can succeed amidst different needs and demands. It all begins with an incomprehensible act: Helene, mother of three, gets up from dinner without a word and throws herself off the balcony. Sarah, her best friend, supports the grieving family. But her own life fades into the background and an emotion makes its way to the surface: anger. Lola, Helene's daughter, feels this anger even more strongly, her accusation is directed against the patriarchy itself, which she resolutely declares war on.
