With his trenchant thriller DIE WÄRTERIN, award-winning Danish director Gustav Möller tells of power and powerlessness, just punishment and vigilante justice, embedded in the harsh reality of everyday prison life.

Prison guard Eva (Sidse Babett Knudsen) believes in the good in people. She always has an open ear for the concerns of her inmates and even gives yoga classes to felons to escape the confines of their cells. However, when the criminal Mikkel (Sebastian Bull) is transferred to her prison, Eva's progressive world view is put to the test, as the two have a violent past in common. Under a pretext, she has herself transferred to the maximum security wing - the most brutal in the entire prison. A perfidious power game unfolds here, at the end of which Eva has to decide how far she is prepared to go for her desire for revenge.
