As children, they spent their summer vacations playing on building sites in what was then Yugoslavia; today, the dreams their parents realized there are passing into their hands. The houses bear witness to the planned, but repeatedly postponed return from Germany - as a made family and with the whole family. Remaining in the shell, carefully furnished or now threatened by decay, they are mostly uninhabited.

The film is dedicated to these spaces in quiet shots; the (future) heirs relate to them, to belonging and home. It provides insights into the processes of emancipation and identity-finding of the five protagonists and also sees their experiences as a resource - not only for their own biographies, but also for the challenges of the present and future.
