„Die Statik der Träume“ // Kulturell leben: Film & Gespräch

In the organizer's words:

As children, they spent their summer vacations playing on construction sites in what was then Yugoslavia; today, the five protagonists are jointly responsible for their parents' dreams being realized there. Left as shells, carefully furnished or threatened by decay, they are mostly uninhabited. The film is dedicated to these spaces in quiet shots; the (future) heirs relate to them, to belonging and home.

For the parents' generation, the building projects bear witness to the idea of a shared and prosperous return - for the next generation, they represent a challenge as a legacy. While Predrag Lukić sees the house as a personal gain, Nena Jurković blames the ostentatious building for too little parental attention in her childhood. Deana Mrkaja feels reminded of the war at the sight of the unfinished house, while Željko Ristić sees the early death of his mother reflected in the furnishings of the living rooms, which have remained unchanged since then and make it impossible to stay for any length of time.

Only Sami Džemailovski has his own idea for how to continue using the house. However, none of them want to live there as their parents intended. A production by Blinker Filmproduktion in co-production with ZDF in cooperation with ARTE.

Following the film, we invite you to a panel discussion with the director Filippa Bauer and some of the protagonists. Moderation: Aida Demirović-Krebs.

The event takes place as part of the accompanying program for the erection of a memorial for so-called guest workers decided by the city of Dortmund.
