In the 17th century, a quarter of the area within the medieval city walls was still planted with vines. The then 90 hectares had shrunk to 65 by the beginning of the 19th century, and viticulture in Cologne went into decline. But the tradition lives on - on a small scale. Our cycle tour starts at the Dionysus Fountain, where the god of wine enjoys his grape juice in a relaxed posture. Passing former wine-growing areas such as the one around St. Pantaleon, we finally arrive at Chlodwigplatz with its small, fine vineyard at the Severinstorburg.
