Gerda and Kay are best friends. But when Kay gets a splinter in his eye, everything suddenly changes. He finds Gerda and his other friends annoying and boring and follows the tempting voice of the icy snow queen. Gerda sets off in search of her friend - and finds herself: In the enigmatic and shrill realm of the Flower Queen, at the golden court of a prince and princess with a crush, in the dangerous and harsh world of the Robber Queen, she learns to stand up for herself and her friends. With the help of a crow and a reindeer, she discovers her way in the end and is able to free her Kay from the cold hands of the Snow Queen with the true power of friendship - laughter.
Composer Samuel Penderbayne and librettist Christian Schönfelder embark on Gerda's great journey with a small cast. Together they tell Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tale as a road movie with wit and chills: musical flowers, a croaking clarinet, a tuba reindeer and the gruesomely beautiful synthesizer world of the Snow Queen are just some of the ingredients for this musical theater in which the children are right up close to the action.
