Antje Rávik Strubel, winner of the 2021 German Book Prize, tells the story of someone who loses control in her new novel "Der Einfluss der Fasane".

Hella Karl is head of the features section of a major Berlin daily newspaper. Having risen from humble beginnings, she has worked hard to earn her position as a respected journalist. When the director of one of the capital's most successful theaters commits suicide, she suspects that she will be held responsible: In an article, she had described his management style as tyrannical and his methods as misogynistic. Hella Karl is not an advocate of feminist positions, on the contrary. She is attracted to the shimmer of powerful men. But once the excitement is set in motion, it can no longer be stopped.

Literary critic Daniela Strigl discusses with the author the power of criticism in the cultural sector, the struggle for words and the mischief of media discourse. Christian Dunker moderates.

The Austrian Germanist, literary scholar and literary critic Daniela Strigl teaches modern German literature as a private lecturer at the University of Vienna. Among other things, she has been a jury member for the Leipzig Book Fair Prize since 2013.
